But when she came home she was carrying …a parcel!

And inside the parcel… another parcel!

Sporran and I were getting excited. “Open it!” we said.

A box! With black ribbon to play with!

We played with the ribbon and then we realised that The Secretary was still fiddling with the parcel!

It’s a bird!  (He has a tag, like we wear, which says his name is Jim.)

And a card which reads:

             Jim was made by Ann Wood, a lovely lady in Brooklyn and he is my prize from a contest which Ann held at her blog.

I think Jim is very handsome. Sporran agrees. Of course, we are not allowed to play with Jim. The secretary says we might play a “bit too rough” so she will put him in the cabinet with  her books.

Spoil-sport! That’s what she is! But we’d like to say a very big thank you to Ann for sending Jim all the way to Australia. We’ll make sure The Secretary takes good care of him.

Yes. We certainly wouldn’t let her leave him outside in a Big Storm!

And for some reason there’s rather a lot of sparkly paper and ribbon-y stuff.

And a new toy!

But the best part about this Christmas thing is that our Man is  at home. All day. Every day.

And that means the Secretary does more cooking!

We wish all our friends and their slaves a safe and happy holiday time. Don’t scoff too much rich food. Remember, our vets like to have a holiday, too!

Well, on Sunday, my leg was hurting so Dinah stuffed me in that wretched crate and hauled me off to the hospital. Dr. Dave poked a needle into my sore leg and said if it was still hurting in a few days I might have to have something called “caught a zone.” 

But I’m much better so I think I’ll never find out out what the caught a zone thing is.

               I called dibs, but Sporran thought we should play for it. She would!

And why not? You can’t hog everything, you know.

It’s stopped raining. Shall we go outside? I’m going to look for those funny kites at the beach.(We can see all the way to the sea now that the big tree’s gone.)

Well, I’m going to have another look around next door before the new people move in. The Secretary says there will be more dogs ! Bugger!

Secretary : sigh…bugger. Happy now?  Fetches Hoover to clear up the bits of  shredded cardboard…

The Secretary’s brother lives by the ocean where the ship Rena hit a reef and spilled a lot of oil. Thousands of birds and fishes died. Some of them were rescued and hundreds of people helped to wash them.

Penguins are birds.

They look like clockwork dolls! I bet they’d be fun to chase! (Not that I would. Of course.)

We’d catch Hell if we chased penguins! But there aren’t any in our yard. Anyway, what we wantede to tell you about is that today 49 penguins were stuffedvery carefully put into boxes and carried to the ocean.

But what we want to ask is: why is it called Rabbit Island? Shouldn’t the people call it Penguin Island? Stupid bipeds!

Go! Penguins…

The Secretary is in a right mood. Why? Apparently somebody called Mr. Google has broken something on the computer. She is very cross and has asked   told Mr. G. to fix it NOW.

We are keeping a low profile. As we did the other day when some men arrived with the noisiest machines we’ve ever heard. Worse than the things that wreck our  pouncing patch.

They chopped down 6 trees. Can you believe that! 

I went over the fence into Bob-the-Builder’s garden and hid in the palm trees there. Can you see me? No, didn’t think so!

I have no idea where Geiger went. She came home when the men had gone and she did have a lot of spider webs on her fur…

And I’m not going to tell anyone where I was! It’s my Secret Hideaway.

And today is a Very Special Day. So we are told. Something to do with fast horses. We don’t much care for horses, fast or slow. We haven’t seen any, but we hear they are HUGE.

Oh-oh…she’s getting that dab stuff that she squirts on our fur. Quick, Sporran! Ruuuuuun….!

Pearl and her brother, Pumpkin, had travelled with their Lady all the way from New York to England.

Now, that, folks, is a very long way for cats to travel. It just shows how much their Lady loved them.

So today is a sad day because Pearl has passed away. We send comforting thoughts to her family.

We’ve heard that some cats(and dogs, to, fer pete’s sake!) have parties, with gifts and treats and all manner of  extra goodies. We, apparently, do not qualify. Damned injustice , we think!

But our neighbour has invited the bi-peds to dinner tonight so perhaps we’ll get a kitty-bag? Something like the fish they had the other night would be acceptable.

The secretary promises to tell you more about it tomorrow. Hmm…we’ve heard that one before!

On the bright side, she came home from the shops with a carton of stuff they call beer and has said that we can have the cardboard box to play in. She can expect to see lots of confetti after their party…

Geiger,between sets…

Yes, well, I was rubbing my head along the keys in  a clever little prriff*But it took her so long to focus her picture-box she only caught me scowling at her Hoover!I do wish she wouldn’t leave that blasted thing right where we have to walk!

Sporran here. I have been practising my percussion solo. All these pods that rattle down onto the roof gave me the idea. Of course, they’d sound much better on glass or china, but Dinah seems less than keen on that idea so I have to play outside.

La percussionista just lost one of her sticks down the gap.

And then She got in the way when she was taking pictures of this…

She says it’s one of these, but she isn’t sure which. She also says it’s a female. I think it might be called “snack.” Oh yes – one more thing, just in case you think it’s a great big scary spider: it’s not very big; that’s a small moth which Mrs. Spider is eating, not spider’s head! See?

We have to hand this back to Dinah now as she has loads of work to do. So she says.

Musicians call it an “ostinato” or riff, but when done with an accompanying purr we cats know it as prriff. OK?

But the other day, our Secretary told him:”We are going to the store that sells television sets because our old one has finally come to the end of its road.”

We looked out on the road…no televison set there. What was the woman talking about!

Anyway, off they went…and came home with a present for us!                                                                                                                                                                         

A big box! Excellent jumping and shredding material! So we jumped and shredded until the Secretary was tired of sweeping up bits of box.

And yesterday some workmen came to the neighbours’ house and dug more holes and made a lot of noise. This morning another very noisy truck arrived and I went out to see what was going on. Well! There was a dog!

Just look at those spooky eyes! We think it has the look of Basement Cat!

But Dinah said it was on a chain. She also said I was not to go across the road and tease it! As if! 

Then another big truck arrived! I had a really good watch-post, but Dinah had to go upstairs to take pictures. She’s too fat to squeeze into my space hahaha!

This makes a lot of noise as it squirts sloppy, sticky stuff into a little wheel barrow.

And then the workmen make a lot of noise when one of them tips the barrow over! Great entertainment!

And then our young friend, John, arrived. John looks after us when Dinah and The Man are away. He brought some pretty flowers for Dinah.

And that’s all we have time for…more things are happening next door! We want to see…
